2013 New Year’s Entertainment Resolutions
It’s finally time to cast off the ugly shadow of 2012 once and for all. The Mayans got it wrong and we had to suffer through cruddy movies like ‘2012’ and all kinds of lousy apocalyptic spin-offs. Now, in 2013, it’s a great chance to resolve to return to the things we hold dear: Joss Whedon, classic sci-fi TV, throwing out that copy of ‘2012’ you bought for $4 on DVD—that kind of thing. Here are our 2013 New Year’s entertainment resolutions! Rewatch...Joss Whedon Explains Buffy The Vampire Slayer
In 2011, Joss Whedon visited Australia. It was a strange and wonderful time - a time where Buffy, Angel and Firefly fans could be nervous about the seeming decline of Dollhouse, and be hopeful for the upcoming feature film, The Avengers. I managed to talk to Joss in the Sydney Opera House, no less, and we touched on a few things. The interview as created for on-air use, but we were allowed to put some snippets online, and they proved, not surprisingly, extremely popular. Have a look...Buffy The Vampire Slayer - The 15 Best Episodes Celebrating 15 Years Since Buffy First Aired
It’s hard to believe but it’s been just over 15 years since Buffy Summers moved to Sunnydale and became the latest in a long long line of Slayers, protecting our word from vampires, demons and various very bad dudes. The show, born of a mediocre 1992 movie, made a star of Sarah Michelle Gellar, gave Joss Whedon a career to die for and us seven seasons of awesome entertainment. In a salute to the Scooby Gang and the foes they vanquished, here’s our Top 15 Buffy Episodes, Ever! IN ORDER (dun...Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Interview: Star Ben Walker and Writer Seth Grahame-Smith
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter opens in Australia on August 2. I was lucky enough to spend some time with Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and of course, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, and actor Ben Walker, who talked about the new film that blends the real history of Abraham Lincoln with the less real notion of him being a slayer of blood-sucking demons of the night. Seth wrote the screenplay for the film for producer Tim Burton, who he'd previously worked with...May The 4th Be With You!
What was once a fun thing just for hardcore Star Wars fans is now a ritual for anyone interested in Science Fiction, popular culture, or just being 'with it'. The ultimate date/Star Wars quote mashup for 2012 has arrived - it IS (in Australia - wait for it America...) May the 4th, so now we can all go around saying 'May the 4th be with you' and snigger because we know that even Han Solo grudgingly said 'May the Force be with you', so it must be cool. There are sooooo many Star Wars funny pics...The Top 10 Toughest Sci Fi Women
What makes someone tough? In compiling this list, it was a question that kept coming up, over and over. Sure, physical toughness, the ability to take, and dish out, punishment, is an obvious pre-requisite. Then there's mental toughness - the ability to endure the unendurable, the steel in the soul required to keep on keeping on when faced with impossible odds. When it comes to Sci Fi, there are an amazing array of characters that we all know and love, but to rank them in toughness is, not...Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods - First Trailer!
Not surprisingly, the Joss Whedon-written and produced film, The Cabin In The Woods, brings something new to the horror genre. What starts off as something straight out of the Evil Dead playbook becomes increasingly more convoluted, Sci Fi-y and intriguing as this trailer continues. So many questions, including: What the hell is going on? Is it all some game - a virtual horror experience? Some kind of weird experiment? What is attacking them? How many horror movie cliches...Fright Night Review: Fangs For The Memories!
Starring Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Toni Collette, David Tennant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse Director Craig Gillespie Rated MA Released September 15 If you were old enough to see this at the movies in 1985, then you would be part of the 'grumpy generation' that recoiled in horror when they learned it was going to be remade. Fret not, old timers! It's fun. What's interesting about this remake is that it reworks the elements from the original film, twisting them...Priest 3D Reviewed
Starring Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Christopher Plummer Director Scott Stewart Rated M Released August 25 If you haven't been under a rock for the last few months then you might not be wary of Priest 3D. The legendary Korean comic (manhwa) created by Hyung Min-woo finally made it to the big screen in a big way in the US and was then met by an internet with folded arms and a grim 'no thanks'. It has a Rotten Tomatoes metascore of 17%. Coming in, I was expecting...James Marsters Interview!
If you were a fan of our TrueBuff Marathon, then you would've enjoyed the interviews with James Marsters, the man behind Spike, voted one of the most popular characters in genre television history. After calls went out across the internet for these interviews to be put online, we listened, and acted, and now - here they are! James Marsters recently came out to Australia, and SCI FI put him on the Buffy griller, where he answered pretty much everything you'd ever wanted to know about Spike,...
