What I should have recalled from TOTAL RECALL.
Growing up I had a family friend named Ben who was lucky enough to live in a house with its own movie theatre. Now I'm not talking "home" movie theatre that you see displayed comfortably at Harvey Norman. I'm talking an actual movie theatre with double ceilings and comfy seats, its own projector and movie various movie posters on the walls; one of which was Batman Forever. In my early double digits 10 or 11, it was here in this private cinema I first saw Paul...Who Ya Gonna Call? Lego Ghostbusters!
Flickr seems to be the one place on earth where Lego and Sci Fi come together in one giant plastic explosion of nerdiness. It's supreme awesomeness is on par with the very best geek-cakes out there - even home-made Boba Fett costumes. We've found some people hard at work recreating the genius of Harold Ramis and co in Lego form. Note that we say Lego, and not Legos, much like the Danes who created the building blocks in the first place. Just in case you didn't know, the name...Mark Your Calendars!! Avengers 2 Gets a Release Date!
As we all know by now The Avengers sequel is on (really, how could it not be with $1.4 billion worldwide box office and the number 3 spot on the list of all time box office hits behind Titanic and Avatar?). But what we didn’t know was when exactly. Well fans of the Marvel Universe, make sure your calendars are clear because Walt Disney Pictures has given us a date. The 1st of May, 2015. Yes, we know that is nearly three years away but in the meantime we’ve got...The Week in Geek Issue # 115
Welcome again dear readers! The Olympics are over and we can all go back to not caring about sport again for four years! Mind you, the closing ceremony was pretty rubbish – the Spice Girls and One Direction get to perform, but no Sabbath, Maiden or Motorhead? For shame organisers… For. Shame. Right, getting off the soapbox now and getting on to what you actually come here to see… First off, in a shameless display of nepotism, registration is open for Sydcon 2012,...Welcome To Hell: Welcome to Todd & The Book of Pure Evil!
Meet Todd & the Book of Pure Evil: it’s horrifyingly funny. If you like your horror bloody and funny, then the hit show Todd Smith & the Book of Pure Evil is the show for you. Think Buffy in Canada with a lewd sense of humour and just a splash more gore, and you might get close. But really, you have to see it to believe it! Not surprisingly, the show revolves around a chap called Todd. When we first meet stoner metal head Todd, his band Barbarian Apocalypse is getting...The Father of E.T. has Died.
Just a week ago, SF was at Sydney's State Theatre, marvelling at how beautifully E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial holds up some 30 years after that sweet little space frog first lit up our heart lights. And yes, by the final reel, damnit, we still had something in our eyes! There are more tears flowing this week at the news that E.T.'s real dad, Italian special effects maestro Carlo Rambaldi, had 'returned home', aged 86. Rambaldi won an Oscar for his marvellous animatronic...CPU @ AT-AT = A-OK
What good are AT-ATs? Well, we're gonna dig into that in just a moment. But whatever their failings, rest assured they look awesome next to your computer monitor! Of the many Star Wars fighting vehicles and weapons platforms, one war machine literally stood head and shoulders above the rest. There were many reasons the All Terrain Armoured Transport loomed so large in our imaginations. For starters, the totally cool acronym, AT-AT, which even onomatopoeically sounded like special...The Week in Geek Issue # 114
Hello again dear readers! It’s been a big week this one, what with the Mars rover landing safely, which was both a magnificent scientific achievement and caused me to wish I had $5 for every reference to The War of the Worlds and Doctor Who’s Ice Warriors I’ve heard… The other big news this week is Joss Whedon will return for the Avengers sequel (Which has a rumoured release date already)– he’ll also be working on a new TV series (Which may or may not be Guillermo Del Toroy’s Hulk series,...H+ - Bryan Singer's New Web Series - May Change The Way We Think About Online Sci Fi
Ever wished you had a computer in your head? You might not, after watching H+, futuristic live-action series about a human race hardwired to the Internet, which has, appropriately, just debuted on YouTube. Produced by Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns), H+ The Digital Series takes place in a world where technology has gone wild and stars Alexis Denisof (Buffy, Angel, The Avengers) and Hannah Simone (New Girl). The premise of the series is pretty compelling. Not content...Watch Serenity For Charity!
It’s been just over a decade since Joss Whedon’s Firefly introduced us to the crew of Serenity and just over nine years since it was brutally cancelled with only 14 episodes in the can. Devoted fans, which we all know are called 'Browncoats', have kept the memory of the space western alive and none are more dedicated than the New Melbourne Browncoats, who hold a charity screening of the show’s big-screen spin-off 'Serenity', every year. The event is called...
