The Week in Geek Issue # 138
Greetings dear readers, The writer has been fairly pre-occupied this week, so we’re going to get straight into the news! The big news this week was going to be the test footage for Ant-Man from last year’s Comic Con, but that vanished from the internet about 10 seconds after it arrived. If you can find it again, you’ve better Google-Fu than I do. In other big news, Face...The Week in Geek Issue # 137
Welcome dear readers, The writer’s not done much this week outside of finishing his Eyecon game (Con sessions are filling fast - book now!), so we’ll head right to what you actually come here to read! The week’s big news is the ending of The Clone Wars, with Lucasfilm announcing the show...Fit for a King or Khaleesi.
The invitation in my inbox to Gastro Park’s celebration of Game of Thrones on Blu-ray was met with triumphant profanities and a fist pump. Once again I would feast on food fit for a King (or Khaleesi). However it was Lady Stark herself, Michelle Fairley who would grace us with her presence. With his Game of Thrones inspired menu selling out almost instantly last year, Head Chef and Owner of Gastro Park Grant King, returned this year with a brand new five-course...INTERVIEW: Rick Heinrichs, production designer of Frankenweenie.
From Disney and creative genius Tim Burton (Alice In Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas) comes the hilarious and offbeat Frankenweenie, a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life – with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation – but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students,...The Week in Geek Issue # 136
Greetings gentle readers! The writer is still quaking with joy (In a good way) over Sam Witwer responding to a tweet of his about playing classic space shooter game TIE Fighter. He’s not sure what it says about him that he was *this* close to screaming at the top of his lungs with joy at the time, but right now he doesn’t care. This week’s top stories are the release of a new Iron Man 3 trailer...Bowie's Science Fiction Obsession.
One of my earliest television memories is seeing David Bowie’s clip for Fashion on Countdown. The clip was a transmission from another reality – a robotic funk song with skronking art-metal guitar breaks, definitely the kind of thing that alien hipsters would dig at the danceteria. Check it out. Science fiction themes...Whovention: Gold
Most people think that we geeks have no idea how to throw a party that even S Club 7 would be proud of. It’s pretty safe to say that after the weekend I’ve had, I can definitely debate that point! Doctor Who fans know how to celebrate and on the weekend of February 22nd to 24th, Whovention attendees and guests showed the universe exactly how it should be done. Doctor Who fans have a lot to celebrate this year as Doctor Who turns 50, after debuting on November...The Week in Geek Issue # 135
Welcome gentle readers! We’ll get the self-promoting out of the way early, as registration for Eyecon 2013 has opened! Get set for an Easter weekend full of gaming, geekery and meeting new people! In a beautiful piece of scheduling, the Saturday of the con is also the first Table Top Day, a celebration of all things gaming started by Felicia Day’s web channel, Geek...The Week in Geek Issue # 134
Greetings dear readers! Lunchtimes at the writer’s job have been a lot more fun of late, as he’s got his department at work hooked on playing Apples to Apples. He’s hoping to introduce them to the white knuckle terror of a game that is Pandemic soon, but that will have to wait till we finish the Doctor Who jigsaw puzzle we’re working...The Week in Geek Issue # 133
Greetings dear readers! The writer hasn’t done much this week outside of writing his Eyecon module, which means he’s been watching swashbuckling movies, reading swashbucklers and occasionally talking in an atrocious French accent. It’s pretty much business as usual for him, to the occasional dismay of his wife. Zombies have been in the news a lot this week, with the Canadian parliament...
