The Sun Sets on Twilight
Being a Twilight fan must be something like openly admitting you’re a Scientologist. I mean, you’re more than entitled to your passions, but you’re also probably going to raise a few eyebrows. With Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 coming out soon, those same fans must be starting to scratch their collective heads at what might be next for the series—and for their fandom. What becomes of the Twilight fan, post-film? How can marketers and producers keep the fires of fan passion...Behind the Scenes on the Total Recall Reboot
The Total Recall reboot will be in cinemas until next month (August 23, to be exact) and Sony has released a featurette that takes you behind the scenes of the movie. If you didn't read our earlier post about the new Total Recall, it stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, John Cho, Bill Nighy and is directed by Beckinsale’s main squeeze Len Wiseman. You may recall that it was first made by Paul Verhoeven back in 1990 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon...Pacific Rim Has Monsters Up the Wazoo
"Pacific Rim Has Monsters Up the Wazoo". So said director Guillermo del Toro of his monsters versus robots extravaganza, Pacific Rim. Unfortunately, unless you attended Comic-Con in San Diego, you are not going to get to see footage from the movie any time soon. Del Toro cut a trailer specifically for the event and from what we hear it was huge. Huge. As in huge monsters, and huge robots. Huge monster-fighting robots. Pacific Rim stars Idris Elba (Prometheus), Charlie Hunnam (Sons...Emma Stone Talks About Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man
Are you excited about the release of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' next week? It's hard not to have your spider sense tingling, just a little bit, with the adorable Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) crush in the upcoming reboot of the the Marvel stalwart. The film follows traditional territory - but with Marc Webb at the helm, it looks like there's a darker, more introspective feel, as opposed to Sam Raimi's more rambunctious colour and movement in the three previous films....Steve Carell Seeks A Friend At The End Of The World
When you think of Sci Fi - the 40 Year Old Virgin, Steve Carell isn't the first person you think of. He's not the kind of guy you imagine flying into an asteroid to save the world but he could be entertaining company as you face imminent destruction by giant flying rock. We’ll soon find out as his new film Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, co-starring Keira Knightley. It's a romantic comedy with a Sci Fi bent, with a good dollop of Armageddon. Or Deep Impact. Could it be When...PROMETHEUS: The Discovery of the Alien Quadrilogy - Part V
“NO SPOILERS!!!” They all just yelled at me. A week ago I had never watched ‘Alien’ or any of it’s successors, and now it seems I’m the (self-professed) academic of our office. All because on Friday night I was lucky enough to be one of the first people in Sydney to sit down and have Ridley Scott’s Prometheus wash over me. No spoilers it is; not even a little IMDB sentence synopsis. If you want to know - look it up! And if you’re a fan of the series you could probably have an...The Discovery of the Alien Quadrilogy – Part IV
I'd heard a lot of negative comments in the office in regards to Alien: Resurrection “It killed the franchise” they said. I don't think it did kill the franchise; I'm putting all the blame on Alien3. Resurrection just did the best with what it had to work with - a protagonist that was dead. Once you surrender yourself to the fact that this film pushes your believability to the max it's quite an enjoyable action film; it's fun and to the point. Joss Whedon wrote the film, although I have...The Discovery of the Alien Quadrilogy – Part III
My imagination, or as my mother called it ADHD, runs wild in anticipation of Alien3. Alien to the power of 3? What can this possibly mean? Does the alien from the first film come back three times as big? Or are they just saying that it’s three times better than the first? Is this an alternate sequel to Alien? Otherwise the film would have just been called Aliens 2? Or More Aliens? Or Alienses? So many possibilities, all of which set me up to be wildly disappointed. Apparently Alien3 just looked...The Discovery of the Alien Quadrilogy – Part II
To make a commitment to a two and a half hour film on a Tuesday night was something of a task - pizza was needed! So with more than a slice I sat down to continue my extra-terrestrial education with James Cameron's 'Aliens'. Straight away two burning questions were answered. One, did the cat survive? And two, what the hell did Paul Reiser ever do besides 'Mad About You'? Yes the cat did survive and it turns out Paul Reiser is in 'Aliens'. Alas seconds later we find out Ripley was just having a...The Discovery of the Alien Quadrilogy - Part I
Alien. The second I say that word out loud electric blue light blowing up the White House comes to mind. That is quickly followed by an image of Will Smith as the Fresh Prince only because it's hard for me to picture him as anyone else. You say that word to someone 10 years my senior and they will start to re-enact something bursting out of their stomach! So why doesn't that pop straight into my head? Well, two things; I'm a child of the nineties, and to be honest (and I'm ashamed to say...
