Our Favourite Star Trek: The Next Generation Moments
Star Trek is, quite possibly, the most popular science fiction series of all time, surpassing Dr. Who, Star Wars, Stargate and just about any other series you can throw at it.
Of Star Trek’s many variations and spin-offs, few come close to Star Trek: The Next Generation in terms of cast quality, fun storytelling and escapism. Not only are we giving away 30 Star Trek; TNG Season 2 prize packs of Blu-rays and DVDs, we’re also recounting our favourite moments from the whole Next Generation series.
Old Scotty returns!
James Doohan's Scotty, with his unforgettable accent and rotund belly, was always a fan favourite. The actor came out of retirement for TNG season 6 in the episode ‘Relics’. The portly engineer ends up rebuilding the classic bridge and has a pow-wow with Captain Picard, putting him (and all those young whippersnappers) in their place: "Starship captains are like children. They want everything right now and they want it their way. The secret is to give them what they need, not what they want." Then they knock a few glasses back together. Classic.
Picard becomes a Borg!
In the classic season 3 cliff-hanger, "The Best of Both Worlds", Picard gets taken by the half-machine, all menacing Borg. Riker’s mettle is tested as a startling transmission comes through on the bridge. Picard is revealed – and he’s been transformed into a Borg! “Resistance is futile. Your life as it has been is over. From this time forward, you will service us.”
The end of all things!
In the series finale, that is – the final episode of The Next Generation ever, we see three different Enterprise ships all vying for their place in reality at once. The time-bending plot line has aged versions of all the key cast members, as well as some impressive effects work for the time. "All Good Things..." stands as a fitting finale for a stellar and beloved sci-fi series.
