The Greatest Space Ships Ever Made - Peter Elson Gallery

Continuing our look at cool Sci Fi illustrators, here's a gallery from one of the all time greats - Peter Elson.

If you like a cool space ship, you've come to the right place.

Legendary illustrator Peter Elson is an icon in the world of Sci Fi. If you've ever read a paper back copy of one of the 'Stainless Steel Rat' novels, then you would have seen his work. If you grew up in the 80's, in a time before the internet, then books like the Terran Travel Authority would have fired your imagination with their incredible detail and sleekly designed space ships.

Elson, whose illustrations often placed detailed, brightly-liveried spacecraft against vividly coloured backgrounds, influenced an entire generation of science fiction illustrators and concept artists.
If you've ever played the PC game Homeworld - you've seen workinfluenced by Elson's illustrations of the '70s and '80s, according to artists who worked on the title.

He is listed in the Special Thanks section of the game's manual and has a character, Captain Elson, named after him.

Born in Ealing in London in 1947, Elson died in March 1998. Here's just a sample of his incredible work, and you can see more at his website, here

Flounder, Hake, Whiting, Barramundi all good. I'm very partial to flat head. There's a New Zealand fish that is excellent...cant recall the name. All white fish mind you.
