PROMETHEUS: The Discovery of the Alien Quadrilogy - Part V

“NO SPOILERS!!!” They all just yelled at me.  A week ago I had never watched ‘Alien’ or any of it’s successors, and now it seems I’m the (self-professed) academic of our office.  All because on Friday night I was lucky enough to be one of the first people in Sydney to sit down and have Ridley Scott’s Prometheus wash over me.

No spoilers it is; not even a little IMDB sentence synopsis. If you want to know - look it up! And if you’re a fan of the series you could probably have an educated guess just by watching any of the trailers.

Arguably one of the things people would remember from ‘Alien’ is the beautiful composition of shots. The technology might date, and Ripley’s haircut might remind you of something your mum once sported in the 80’s, but the way Ridley Scott captures the action is timeless. Prometheus is further proof.  My stomach sunk as the screen lit up with it’s opening shots. They took my breath away and I didn’t quite get it back until a good 20 minutes after the credits rolled.

I knew that there had been contradictory stories of what Prometheus was meant to be. Was it a prequel? Or wasn’t it? I had to look up the meaning of the word, and by definition I would say yes, it is a prequel to ‘Alien’. I guess the studios didn’t want to set up the audience for disappointment as the film has no mention of Ripley, or any of the Nostromo crew. To quote Ridley Scott, ‘it shares the same DNA as Alien.’ A brilliant way of saying it doesn’t really have anything to do with Alien… but it does.

I absolutely enjoyed the movie and I instantly wanted to re-watch Alien and (if it pours down with rain again this weekend) I might just do so. I can’t imagine the anticipation felt by someone who grew up with the first Alien film. Will Prometheus live up to expectation of audience members who have been waiting 30 years for answers? Let me know your thoughts below in the comment box once you have seen it!

PROMETHEUS is out in cinemas June 7 in 3D.

PS. Charlize Theron is bangin’.

I intend to take a little trip to Engadine pretty soon I think. Bit of a journey from Berala, where I am domiciled but then I'm retired and I love driving...and I love pizza. Might pop down to Stanmore a bit later and sample Adam's tucker as well. My freezer will have lots of pleasant little surprises soon. Thanks guys.

We had a pizzeria in town where I live, and I can say with out reserve that they had the best taste/portion size ratio to money value that I have ever known. But like everything awesome, some douche bag bought this slice of heaven on earth, and decided to screw with the portion sizes and changed the cheese mix.Needless to say the business went under in a month.( the previous owner had it for 20 odd years).

Being a tight arsed Scotsman these things are EXTREMELY important to me.You could put the best pizza in the world in front of me,but unless the $ to taste/portion size was right I wouldn't buy OR recommend it to others.

Damn you all,now I want pizza.
