Author Anne McCaffrey, who penned the Dragonriders of Pern series of novels, has died at her home in Ireland at the age of 85. Born in the US, McCaffrey was a pioneer in the world of Sci Fi and fantasy - she was the first women to break into the male-dominated world of science fiction, winning both the Hugo and the Nebula awards, also the first woman to win both those awards.
