This week sees the groundbreaking introduction of The Electric Playground. The Electric Playground has been around, in one form or another, since 1997. It's been a staple of Canadian television ever since it started as a 13 episode run, covering the world of gaming and geekdom from the geek's point of view. It's now a daily show, providing on air and online info on the very latest in games, movies, music, comic and the general geekdom that we all know and love. This week sees the exclusive...The Week in Geek Issue #38
Welcome once again dear readers! It’s been an interesting week for the writer, given he spent a good chunk of Sunday minding his godson. It was an interesting experience, to say the least given I’ve not done that sort of thing before. I’m just glad the little tyke wasn’t too fussy – I don’t deal will with high pitched noises. Let’s move on shall we? First things first, put down the chainsaw and listen to me! Those who get that reference will know what’s coming... That’s right, Weird Al Yankovic...Helen Mirren Joins the Wii Team
In the 'so weird it must be true' gaming news of the day, Academy Award winning actress, Dame Helen Mirren, has now partnered with Nintendo Australia to promote Wii Fit Plus. “I would never have imagined myself exercising through a video console, and now I feel very modern indeed.” Says Helen. “It’s both fun and incredibly easy to set-up.” The television commercials will go to air for the first time on Sunday 28 November. Nintendo claims that over one million Australians have embraced...Joss Whedon's Reply To The Buffy Remake
Still reeling from the news that Buffy is actually going ahead on the big screen, without Joss Whedon? So is Joss. He has "strong, mixed emotions". He sent off this reply to an email from Kristin Dos Santos at e-online.com. "This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself. Obviously I have strong,...Cosplay Finals This Weekend!
This weekend sees the final round of the 2010 Madman National Cosplay Championship. Finalists from all over Australia will come together for their moment in the spotlight: to compete for all the glory that comes with being officially recognised as Australia’s best Cosplayer, as well as the grand prize of a trip to Tokyo, Japan - the home of Cosplay. In only its second year, the NCC features an expanded field of contestants, which includes not only state finalists, but judges’ wild card entries...Big Buffy Movie Reboot Officially Announced
Warner Bros has announced that a remake of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is on the cards. Not the TV series, but the original 1992 film, which starred Kristy Swanson, Luke Perry and Donald Sutherland, and was directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui. Of course, the film was written by Joss Whedon (containing such classic lines as "her yabos scoff at gravity") who went on to develop the his original idea for television. The odd thing about it all is that Joss Whedon won't be involved in any way. The even odder...Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 1: Welcome to the Dark Side
Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Rhys Ifans, Bill Nighy Rated M Released Nov 18 Deathly Hallows should be rated 'N' for Nightmares, rather than 'M'. This is more Saving Private Potter than anything, a harrowing adventure with evil and danger at every turn. If you're a Potter fan, and have grown up with the story, and are grown up, then it's perfect entertainment. If you're not, then it is a series of events with a large group of characters that you know nothing about and...What's On This Week Nov 22 - 28
This week we've got all three of the first three episodes of season three of Sanctuary. That's right, 3,3,3 - only half as evil as the devil. If you check out Spectrum, our online video player, and go to the tab marked 'Full Episodes' you'll find more than enough Sanctuary to sink your teeth into. It's a great way to catch up on one of the great new fast-tracked shows on SCI FI (the other, of course, being Stargate Universe). While you're there, check out our wide array of trailers and interviews...The Week in Geek Issue #37
Welcome dear readers! Sickness and sleeplessness have continued to plague the writer but it’s going to take more than that to deter us from bringing you what you need to know and even more that you don’t! It’s a trailer fest this week with some high profile names mixed in with lesser known works. We’ll get the two big ones out of the way early, the first being Green Lantern. As good as it looks (the space stuff is gorgeous), I still hate the CG costume, especially the mask. I know it’s most...
