Most Adorable AT-AT, Ever
It’s not often that The Empire’s machines of death can be tamed and turned into loveable family pets, but French Canadian filmmaker, Patrick Boivin, has done it. Patrick’s a bit of a stop-motion wizz (check out his channels on Youtube that include videos of Michael Jackson Vs Mr Bean and a brilliant pop-culture cross-pollination that involves the climactic dance of ‘Flashdance’ and everyone’s favourite Mandalorian, Boba Fett. Boivin does the filming, animation, editing and music. Someone to look...Stargate Universe: S2 Mid-Season Finale! Destiny has a Destination!
On the set of Stargate Universe at Bridge Studios in Vancouver last week, a lucky moment allowed us a very quick sneak peek at the call sheet for Stargate Universe Episode #210, the mid-season finale of Season 2, called ‘Resurgence’. It showed who was in what particular shot, and gave a brief description of what was being shot. What we glanced was a list of actors and a very brief description of them interacting with special effects. What we inferred: a gigantic battle in space featuring...Jackson Still Not Actually Directing The Hobbit
After numerous claims over last week that Peter Jackson had slapped his hand on the table and said 'what the hell, a coupla more won't kill me' we went to TheOneRing.Net, the internet's home of trustworthy Middle Earth news and found tales to the contrary. So far David Yates and Neill Blomkamp have bowed out of the race after Guillermo Del Toro metaphorically threw up his hands, pushed himself away from the table and said 'I'm done'. There's been some odd suggestions that Brett Ratner might be...What’s On This Week June 28 - July 4
With a week that ends in one of the most famous Sci Fi days, like, totally, everr, you can expect something pretty big from the SCI FI Channel. We may not celebrate Independence Day in Australia, but we can still have a bit of a party as SCI FI roles out some awesome shows. Monday of course kicks off with Heroes Season 3 Double Episodes. Season 3 of Heroes just gets better and better as the mind-blowing twists of ‘Villains’ get out of control. Who knew that Arthur Petrelli was alive, more...The Evolution of Lara Croft: A Visual History
With the SCI FI Channel premiere of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider coming up this Sunday the 27th, we felt it was high time that we looked back over the visual evolution of Lara as she evolved from a slightly blocky (yet oh so feisty) video game heroine to her most complex and fascinating form as Angelina Jolie. What a long way she's come! Starting out way back in 1996, in-game Lara has since had nine major re-iterations, not including subtle variations in several add-on packs. Many human models...Summer Glau Is A Trekkie: Interview
Summer Glau is a Trekkie. Yes it’s true. A gorgeous, talented actress who happens to have played two of the more iconic roles in recent Sci Fi history likes to geek it up as much as the next nerd. It makes the air worth breathing. It makes discussing the various merits of different Starfleet captains, if not cool, well, supremely okay. Summer is out in Australia, right now, as a guest of Supanova. She popped into Sydney last weekend, and this weekend she’s in Perth, at the Claremont showgrounds....The Week in Geek Issue #16
Greetings True Believers! Welcome back to another week of what's hot in the world of nerd. Where all polarities are reversed, screwdrivers are sonic and assistants run down corridors screaming! I love The Superhero Squad Show to bits and I’m proud of it. I can’t help it: from the absurdly infectious theme tune (second only to Monkey ), to the incredibly cute versions of Marvel heroes and villains or the fact they manage to not only kiddify Wolverine and The Hulk, but even The Punisher....Ke$ha/Star Trek Mashup Reminds Us That Star Trek Really Is Wonderful
In a world that always wants the next best thing, now, yes now, not a week after it airs in the US, it’s sometimes nice to stumble across reminders how some things stand the test of time, and are still really quite good no matter how old they are. Take for example, Star Trek, The Original Series. Whilst it’s fair to say that there are hordes of fans devoted to the Star Trek that started it all, and in many people’s minds, defines TV science fiction, it’s also fair to say there are hordes of people...William Shatner is coming to Australia April 2011. Tickets on sale very soon!
This is the big one people. The Hub Productions have nabbed The Shat. Die hard Star Trek fans need to mark their calenders as 'busy' for April 2nd and April 3rd, 2011 because Captain James T Kirk himself, will be visiting Sydney and Melbourne (apologies, rest of Australia). As an added bonus, everyone's favourite Klingons, JG Hertzler (Martok) and Robert O'Reilly (Gowron) will be coming along for the ride - in full Klingon makeup! THAT is awesome. The Hub are currently waiting to...Imagination 4 - Reality 0. The Sci-Fi Airshow is brilliance you can just about touch.
Did you ever get taken to an airshow as a little kid? Did you marvel at the flying machines lined up on the tarmac? Did you reach out and touch a little piece of aviation history, feeling the rivets undulate under your fingers (or was that Jean-Luc Picard in First Contact?), or did you gape open mouthed as your ears almost bled to the supersonic scream of a a jet doing a low-level flyby? Some of you may have been so lucky to experience this. If you haven’t, hopefully you’ll get the gist. It’s...
