Kill All Monsters?

Sanctuary raises a really interesting question that can be used in daily life - should we kill our enemies, or try to understand them, giving them a chance to kill us?

Sometimes it matters not what we do, they will try to kill us regardless. Look at the insurgents in the middle east at the moment, all that death and still the monsters come!

We should only use lethal force against them if they have dismal social graces.

Dont kill the monsters.

The world needs a bit of mystery in it.

"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster, for when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss gazes unto you."

And also, you can not save humanity by sacrificing your own humanity.

Don't you just LOVE moral dilemmas?

Welcome to the Forum Rosie!

I love the way this thread is going - a bit of Nietszche here and there as well!

What is the monster inside? Madness? Pure emotion? All these monsters that we see and love in Sci Fi - are they ourselves uncontrolled?

Or are they just big things that will in fact eat you?

Some of us refer to some people as monsters - eg Hitler - and look at the following he had - Hussain - he got his - he too had a following - Most of the time it is clear good v evil. The luxury of film allows us to see the 'missunderstood' or the reason they are so bad - one does have to wonder what sort of minds writers and directors have to invent such charactors - eg Jigsaw in Saw series - the cruelty shows the monster - but he did not kill the victims - does this make him the monster ? Then you get Angel and Spike - they were monsters - but we liked them.

Hmmm interesting question. Unfortunately shows humanise monsters and that is why we like them and/or sympathise with them and would prefer most of humanity not to harm them. However in real life if these monsters lack intelligence as we know it and ran on instinct, then they would most likely want to wipe us from the earth, not because they are nasty, but because it is their natural order of things i.e they are just hungry. If we can't even let sharks roam free in their own environment or we kill crocs that dare to eat a human swimming in their waters, why would we not hunt monsters. Most people are afraid of things they don't know or understand, and rather than get to know if they are actually dangerous monsters first, most of us would just try to kill them. I think personally, if they were like the one's on sanctuary I'd want to befriend them first if possible otherwise they'd need to be placed away somewhere where they will not harm humans, but are allowed to live out their life in peace.

The only monsters are the ones we make ourselves.
