Too many Ads causing shows to run into overtime

Why is it that there seems to be more and more ads put in during shows. I just finished watching an hours show and it was putting in ads every seven minutes which lasted five minutes or more and then the next show started later than the advertised time. This is getting pathetic with most channels on pay TV Why not stop ads during the shows and put them in at the end of shows giving us the chance to watch a show in its entirety but I know it will fall on deaf ears as the customers don't count anymore these days. However I am thinking of getting rid of pay TV all together as I find it is now a waste of money and effort and besides as I pay for the full package I could use that money for some thing else

Welcome to the forum, StarGazer1au. And thanks for raising the issue of ads. A couple of years back, I actually timed the ads on SCI FI, once, and discovered that they accounted for about 12 minutes out of every 60 (20%). FOX8 was worse, at about 15 minutes out of every 60 (25%).

Still, all of this is beside the point: what the asterisk is this current deal with CAPRICA? The credits roll; we see two names; then you show some ads; then you show the rest of the credits! That's just rude — what gives?

Problem is, sometimes the ads are more entertaining than the show....but then that's another issue.

Yes, the acting in the Virgin life insurance ads is just as good as the acting in LOST GIRL; the dialogues are just as believable; and the storylines are far more compelling.

Honestly, why would those actors ever sign up to be in a life/funeral insurance ad? Nobody would hire them again due to their now tarnished reputation because people have been plastered with their faces over and over again in ads which nobody likes.

In a strange way stereotyping is one of the primary reasons actors try to get out of long term TV series. Have difficulty gettting a gig elsewhere.

I remember te sad story of one of my childhood favourites from The Adventures of Superman, which stared a rising actor George Reeves. Reeves had already played some supporting roles in a few Westerns and a promient role at the beginning of the famed 'Gone with the Wind' movie, but after five seasons as Superman, he couldnt be taken serious in any further roles. Ended up suiciding beause of it..

In ads mind you some of the faces you see do end up getting contracts for TV movies and series and some seem able to do both simultaneously like that bloke with the dog in an insurance ad who also is one of the principals in one of those rennovation programmes (spelt that way to appease ZV). Anyway, for the money on offer I guess you grab what you can get in that area. When I was much much younger I drove cabs while I was studying for a time and as a fill in and I was surprised by the number of actors doing the same hanging out for their next offer of a role....bit of a heart break profession I understand.

I was bored and annoyed with all the ads sitting at home on 1 August so captured 3 hours of programming. I think I may have even missed an ad here and there so the list possibly should be longer: A couple of programs started late due to the amount of ads in the break.
