I managed to keep well away from all the MS3 controversy by not responding to anything related to it, but the people that complained when SF wouldnt delete their posts as well as MS3's just showed that they were butt-hurt and then asking for an apology was even more laughable.
These forums are the property of SF and they have the right to manage them as they like. I'm not saying they do the job well, but thats up to them. Its not as if any rights to free speech apply on privately owned forums.
You are spoiling it for the people that do want to be here which I believe was the main complaint about MS3.
ZV has been one of the principal contributors to this forum for a long time and no doubt the large audience that doesnt contribute to the discussion but watch, are no doubt entertained by what personalities like ZV have to contribute. he has been an integral part for years and like all of us deserves to be treated with respect
Now I know we do not own SF and that our involvement must be dependent upon us following the standards expected of such a site. We were in fact pleading for some time for a moderator because after The Captain left there seemed a vacuum and free for all. None of us opposed SF's right to set the standards by which we should operate,. But realistically for a time things seem to fall apart and the Matthew (MS3) issue was an example. Pleas were consistently made for SF to recognise the problem and seek to have Matthew fall in with the purpose of these forums, that being to communicate between members about SF issues.
Now frustration obviously got the better of us, and I include myself in this because nothing was happening. Though perhaps I shouldnt have, I ended up seeking to tease the fellow to get a reaction after failing in earlier attempts to have him communicate with us appropriately.
Then along comes the new marshal, and I use that term intentionally. Firstly Matthew was wiped from the forum...this shouldnt have happened if SF had been on its toes early and tried to get the lad to communicate, but a sledge hammer was used rather than an attempt at negotiation and conciliation.
Then attempts to question the action and sudden wiping of our comments occurred without explanation. Jerry Cornelius in a later comment on a forum tried to explain SF's problems and we appreciated that. But then we receive a comment from Patch that came out like a threat of disciplinary action against children and further items were wiped despite them having no questionable language, other than expressing disappointment and criticism regarding actions being taken. I certainly felt belittled by that comment and what was worse, no explanation was given explaining why items were removed.
Most of those who left, I can say, seem intelligent people of diverse and extensive knowledge and skill. And they certainly seem mature. This is a recreation. A bit of fun bantering between very different people who share an interest and want to communicate with each other. And might I add they are the core element of the forums as can be seen by the dearth of entries on SF since our departure. But it seemed the fun was being taken away.
Seems to me a little better communication from SF could have resolved this issue quickly. But we got nothing but a veiled threat.
I personally would love to return but I'm not convinced that those in charge understand the balance that should be maintained between members and moderators. So I stay at Fantastic Worlds, brilliantly set up by ZV who you choose to besmirch, just because he wants to allow others who we considered 'pals' on the forums, to know where to find us. SF doesnt own them.
And if SF started to communicate about these issues, no doubt we'll listen. They also dont own us but we are all probably quite willing to consider negotiation and conciliation. If not so be it and this entry will probably be wiped..
Plus SF may own/run the forum etc but we are the paying customers! We should be listened to communicated with and not told what is best for us.
I kind of wonder, as mentioned before, if SF ever thought of financing some of its own shows like SyFy. Oz seems to have some great talent. Aurora is a perfect place to start......what do you reckon Jerry...Jeremy got a chance? You've seen the 30 minute show. Its great and has enormous potential....just watched it again for about the fifteenth time...love it
